Google review link: how to get yours, and where to use it

If you have ever tried to ask a customer for a Google review, you have probably hit the same wall we see with almost every trade, clinic, salon and hospitality client at Bantam Growth Studio: your Google Business Profile does not hand you a neat, short link to share. Instead you get a search results page, a maps pin, or a QR code generator that buries the one thing you actually need. We deal with this setup constantly while running visibility audits for small businesses across Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast, so this guide walks through the real options, in plain terms, so you can pick one and get back to running your business.

A Google review link is simply a URL that, when clicked, opens a pre-filled review box on your Google Business Profile so a customer can leave a star rating and comment in a few taps. The fewer steps between "can you leave us a review" and the customer actually posting one, the more reviews you get. That is the whole game.

The three real ways to get a Google review link

There is no single official button in the Google Business Profile dashboard labelled "get review link", which is why so many business owners end up confused or copy the wrong URL. In practice, there are three ways to get one.

  • Google's own "Share review form" tool: inside your Google Business Profile (via Google Search or the Business Profile app), search your business name, tap "Ask for reviews", and Google generates a short link for you. This is the most reliable option because Google controls the format and it will not break if Google changes its backend.
  • Place ID method: every Google Business Profile has a unique Place ID. You can build a review link manually using the format https://search.google.com/local/writereview?placeid=YOUR_PLACE_ID. This works well but requires finding your Place ID first, which most owners have never heard of.
  • Third-party generator tools: sites like Whitespark's Google Review Link Generator look up your Place ID for you and spit out a ready-to-use link, often bundled with a QR code. These are handy if you want a shortcut and do not want to dig through developer tools.

For most small businesses we work with, the built-in "Share review form" option inside Google Business Profile is the simplest and most future-proof. It takes about two minutes and does not depend on a third-party site staying online or updating its tool when Google makes changes.

Google Review Link Generator

Searching "google review link generator" usually means you want a fast, no-fuss way to produce that link without hunting through Google's own menus. These tools work by asking for your business name or address, matching it to your Google Business Profile listing, pulling the Place ID behind the scenes, and returning a clickable link plus a downloadable QR code.

They are genuinely useful in a few specific situations:

  • You manage review requests for multiple locations and want to generate several links quickly in one sitting.
  • You want a QR code for a printed card, receipt, or window sticker and do not want to build one separately.
  • Your Google Business Profile dashboard is being uncooperative or you cannot find the share option on your device.

A few things to check before you rely on a third-party generator for your business:

  • Accuracy of the match: confirm the tool has pulled the correct listing, especially if you have a common business name or multiple locations in the same suburb. We have seen Brisbane clients almost send customers to a review page for the wrong branch because the generator matched a similarly named business two suburbs over.
  • Link stability: test the link yourself on both desktop and mobile before you send it to a single customer. A link that opens correctly on your laptop does not always behave the same way in a text message on an iPhone.
  • No login required: legitimate generators do not need access to your Google account to build the link, since Place IDs are public data. Be wary of any tool asking for your Google Business Profile login credentials.

Whitespark's generator is a well known example and does the job cleanly if you just need a link fast. But for ongoing use, we still recommend businesses learn where the native Google option lives, because it removes the dependency on an outside website entirely.

Where to actually use your review link

Getting the link is only half the job. Where and how you share it makes the difference between a trickle of reviews and a steady stream.

  • SMS after service: for trades and clinics, a short text sent within a few hours of the job or appointment, while the experience is fresh, tends to get the best response rate.
  • Email signature and invoices: adding the link to your invoice footer or email signature catches customers who did not respond to the first ask.
  • QR code on receipts or in-store signage: salons and hospitality venues get good mileage from a small printed QR code at the counter or on the receipt itself.
  • Avoid review gating: never filter customers by asking "were you happy?" before sending only the happy ones to Google. Google's guidelines prohibit this and it can get a profile penalised, so send the same link to everyone who was served.

Next steps

If you already know your Google Business Profile is set up and verified, the fastest path is to open it now, tap "Ask for reviews", and grab the link Google gives you directly. That covers the vast majority of small businesses reading this.

If instead you are not sure your listing is even showing up correctly in local search, or you suspect customers searching for your services in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast or the Gold Coast are finding competitors instead of you, a review link will not fix that underlying visibility problem. That is the exact gap we look at in our visibility audits at Bantam Growth Studio: we check whether your business is actually appearing for the searches that matter, then prioritise fixes on a flat monthly retainer with no lock-in contract. There is no pressure to sign anything to get value from sorting your review link out today, but if the audit uncovers bigger gaps in how customers find you, we are here when you are ready to look at it.
